Suman joined CrossFit 1836 back in January 2014 and has become an incredible athlete in our gym. We asked Suman a few questions about his CrossFit story…
1. What has been your biggest improvement while at CrossFit 1836?
I gradually started building daily workout routines and healthy eating habits. Before CF, I was underweight and could barely lift any weights or run a couple of miles.
2. Any advice for people wanting to try out CrossFit 1836?
CF1836 has the best coaches and friendly members around to cheer you on in WODs. With more than 1000 likes, and 5 stars ratings on FB you can’t go wrong with this box. If you are new to CrossFit, you may feel uncomfortable with all the complex movements with other athletes killing WODs with heavy weights. Don’t worry about what others are doing and focus on proper technique of movements. It doesn’t matter if you are pro athlete or newbie, coaches are always there watching your back. After a couple of months you will understand what CrossFit really is.
3. What’s your favorite movement?
In movements with weights, Thrusters! After the movements you’ll remember it all night long. (Tongue-in-cheek)
In bodyweight exercises, chest to bar. The struggle to pull chest to the bar is always fun.
4. Why did you start CrossFit?
Before CF, I neither had good eating habits nor did I lift. I tried to hit the gym a couple of times in the past. But like most of the people, I dropped out after a few weeks. After settling down in my professional life, I was seriously looking for opportunities to improve my lifestyle. First I started googling about good personal trainers and gyms around. One of my friends from school introduced me to CrossFit. I quickly checked some videos of CrossFit wods and freaked out about the intensity of the workouts. I decided to visit a box personally to learn more about CF and came to know that there’s always scaled versions for most of the WODs which can be done by any level of athlete.
5. What is your favorite thing about CrossFit 1836?
Experienced and friendly coaches and members. It is not just a box, but a great community with loving people.
6. What is your favorite Paleo meal?
I haven’t gone paleo yet. I am planning to start it slowly.
7. What is your favorite “cheat” meal?
Chicken Biryani, any time!
8. What do you like to do in your spare time?
My profession needs to be up to date with latest technologies and programming languages, so in my spare time I read and practice personal projects. On weekends I hang out with my friends from school and we like to try different cuisines. I am a nature lover and I travel now and then and visit beautiful and scenic places. Recently I finished my first uphill hiking at the Grand Canyon.
9. What is something that you have accomplished while doing CrossFit that you never though you would be able to do?
I never thought I could be regular to work-outs. More than a year and counting, I rarely miss a class. Thanks to CrossFit for making working out interesting.10. What do you do for a living?
I am a Software Developer and we build applications for the web. We are a great team at Insperity and I enjoy working with them.11. Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.
I am from India and I graduated from University of Houston in 2014. We are a big family and really miss them. I miss homemade food and the company of my brothers.

12. What is something you want to achieve in CrossFit?
Handstand pushups and double-unders! Some day!
