1.What has been your biggest improvement while at CrossFit 1836?
This is a hard question because since I started there have been so many improvements! When I first started I could barely make it through a workout. I thought it was the hardest thing I had ever done. All of the olympic lifts felt awkward and I was using very light weight. The great thing about Crossfit is that you can always improve. When I started I could not touch the bar with my toes, I could not do a pull up, and handstand push up? Are you kidding?? Now, I can do all of those things and I can lift heavier weight. So to pick my biggest improvement is hard…..I think I am most proud that I can do pull-ups though.
2.Any advice for people wanting to try out CrossFit 1836?
I would tell anyone wanting to try crossfit 1836 that they will not find a better coaching staff. The coaches genuinely care about each athlete. I would also tell them to not be afraid to ask for help if they feel they need it. I would tell them to stick with it for at least 3 months, it took me at least that long to feel comfortable with all the movements. Lastly, I would tell them to not worry about what weight everyone else is doing and focus on yourself. Your own improvements will come soon enough but it takes time and hard work.
3.What’s your favorite movement?
Hmmm….My favorite movement would probably be a clean. Although, with most of the movements its a love/hate relationship!!
4.Why did you start CrossFit?
I started crossfit in the fall of 2011. I was looking for something different and was just bored with what I was doing. I had just finished doing P90X at home and thought I was in pretty good shape. (wrong!) My friend Emma heard about crossfit from a friend and said that Crossfit 1836 had opened in Kingwood and that we should try it out. Four of us started together. We took elements together and looking back I think that is what helped me stick with it. There is something about having a friend that is going to keep you accountable and keep you coming. FYI…..Four babies later Emma is still crossfitting!!
5.What is your favorite thing about CrossFit 1836?
My favorite thing about Crossfit 1836 is THE PEOPLE!!! You feel like such an outsider at first but everyone there is so encouraging and supportive they become like family.
6.What is your favorite Paleo meal?
I’m a simple girl when it comes to food. I especially don’t care much for cooking and following a recipe. My favorite paleo meal is just a grilled chicken breast or filet, cauliflower mashed potatoes or sweet potato, and avocado or tomato. Its simple and I don’t have to think too much!
7.What is your favorite “cheat” meal?
For sure its chips and queso! I can make a meal out of that.
8.What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I love to travel. I like to read, hang out with my husband Tracy and our four dogs. We like to take rides on our Harley with friends. I love to be outside. Since I started Crossfit 1836 — I’ve done three half marathons, something else I never thought I would do!
9.What is something that you have accomplished while doing CrossFit that you never thought you would be able to do?
I Never in a million years thought I would be able to do a pullup!! I recently did Fran and did all the pullups!! Never thought I would be able to do that.
10.What do you do for a living?
I am a dentist. I own my own business and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! God has blessed me with an awesome team and it is fun and rewarding to go to work everyday.
11.Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.
I have been married to Tracy for 16 years. I am the oldest of four kids. I graduated from Cleveland High School in 1990 and now that is where I practice dentistry. I was a band nerd and science geek in high school and college — so the fact that people call me an athlete cracks me up! Don’t even mention athlete of the month!! Haha! I am a Christian. I love the Lord with all my heart and I give Him the glory for everything He has done in my life. I love to study the Bible and I love ministering to other women.
12.What is something you want to achieve in CrossFit?
Double unders haunt me! I will get them Matthew I promise! LOL!
